April 11, 2008Dennis McGinn, Former Battelle Corporate Officer and Retired U.S. Navy Vice Admiral, Charts Course for RemoteReality as Chairman & CEO
WESTBOROUGH, Mass., April 11, 2008 – Retired Vice Admiral Dennis (Denny) McGinn, most recently a corporate officer at Battelle, the world’s largest nonprofit independent research and development organization, is navigating new but familiar waters as chairman and chief executive officer of RemoteReality Corporation.
McGinn, who took the helm earlier this year, led Battelle’s energy, transportation and environment division, as well as served as vice president of strategic planning and national security business development. He also was on the Brookhaven Science Associates Board of Directors.
Prior to his five-year engagement with Battelle, Adm. McGinn had served 35 years with the U.S. Navy as a naval aviator, test pilot, aircraft carrier commanding officer and national security strategist. His last assignment with the Navy was Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Warfare Requirements and Programs at the Pentagon.
“The need for persistent and full-view situational awareness for critical infrastructure and military-force protection is the key driver of RemoteReality’s product design and development,” said McGinn, who once commanded the U.S. Third Fleet and was recognized for leading great advances in operational innovation.
“I know firsthand from my experience in the Navy how RemoteReality’s wide-area omni-directional camera systems can dramatically improve defense and homeland security operations, by automating and providing total view, enhanced situational awareness, 24/7,” said McGinn. “And we can do this while reducing the overall cost and complexity of traditional video security systems.”
McGinn noted that RemoteReality separately announced today that its advanced submarine periscope camera system for total horizon view and enhanced situational awareness for submarines with Type 18 periscopes is expected to be installed later this year on a Los Angeles-class nuclear submarine.
Said Ralph Taylor-Smith, general partner of RemoteReality investors Battelle Ventures and Innovation Valley Partners, “Denny can authoritatively state the case for how applications of the technology can cost-effectively enhance security and improve mission effectiveness in many defense and homeland-security applications.”
“With Denny's proven leadership abilities and stellar reputation, we are confident that the company will be able to take full advantage of the explosive growth in the need for low-maintenance, cost-efficient video surveillance and critical infrastructure protection,” said Matt McCooe, a Board member and partner at RemoteReality investor Chart Venture Partners.
“Various organizations within the U.S. Departments of Homeland Security and Defense have successfully tested and approved RemoteReality solutions for various situations, and we expect to see deployment this year,” he continued, adding that a commercial system is being evaluated by Fortune 500 companies and local municipalities at this time.
